“Mind is not necessarily dependent upon educational processes.
It possesses of itself all beauty and poetry,
and the power of expressing them.”
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 89:18-20
April is “National Poetry Month” in the United States and we thought to share this poem about Christian Science nursing that appeared in the June 2017 issue of The Christian Science Journal. The author is one of our dearest friends. Poems have been included in the magazines published by the Christian Science Publishing Society since its inception and we are grateful for permission to publish this one.
Christian Science nurse
By Carol Sims
From the June 2017 issue of
The Christian Science Journal
So loving, so kind,
the Christian Science nurse
smiles with tenderness
and compassion,
inspires and lifts our thought.
The littlest deeds,
the smallest considerations,
the heartfelt constancy
are a glow of brightness
that surrounds us.
Never doubting,
never fearing,
you are always praying.
As you witness only
to God’s perfect creation,
no graphic picture of mortal mind
dims your scientific beholding,
your ministry of Spirit.
At midnight hour,
at break of dawn,
at noon’s repast—
patient, alert, humble—
Love is your guide
as you walk your rounds.
May the good you do,
the blessings you bring,
make your heart sing!
