Testimonies of Healing

For over 75 years at High Ridge House, we have witnessed many different kinds of challenges healed through Christian Science treatment alone.

At our care facility, we provide the practical care necessary to support an individual’s “recovery or re-discovery” of their spiritual perfection as a child of God and the right to claim it. That is what you will find at our sanctuary for healing and renewal. We are privileged to witness healing moment by moment in our Christian Science nursing ministry.

Written Testimonies

While walking to church on a recent Sunday, I felt a sudden sharp pain in my knee that stopped me in my tracks. I proceeded with great difficulty and arrived at church a little later than usual. I fulfilled my church duties as well as some other responsibilities that day. However, the difficulty became worse on Monday. When friends came over in the evening needing help with their tax return, I needed their help moving around.

On Tuesday, I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, which was lovingly given. But that night I found myself on the floor, in the dark, unable to get up or to move. I could not call the practitioner since I hadn’t memorized the phone number and could not reach the light in order to find it. I was reluctant to dial 911 thinking that they might require me to go to the hospital.

I was tempted to give up but a statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy came to me: “The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares” (p. 574:27-30). The angel message kept coming to me, 'DO NOT GIVE UP!

I fell asleep on the floor and woke a few hours later when the sun was shining. I called the practitioner, who reassured me that I could call 911 and be set on my feet again and I had the right to refuse to go to the hospital. I was able to unlock the front door so the police could get in. Within a half hour, I was standing but still barely able to walk.

Thankfully, the Christian Science practitioner called High Ridge House and they immediately and lovingly welcomed me and even sent a Christian Science nurse to my home to pick me up. From there, my condition rapidly improved.

The next day, I was able to walk free of pain and was reclassified as a rest and study guest, no longer needing Christian Science nursing care. I was able to sleep comfortably. High Ridge House patients sign a form promising that they will express joy and gratitude, and I really worked on doing this and being a blessing to others.

I write with earnest gratitude, as a lifelong student of Christian Science and as a humble witness to an extraordinary healing my Mother demonstrated while in the care of the stellar Christian Science nurses at High Ridge House.

The mental atmosphere at High Ridge House was palpably calm and the potency of Truth and its application was a reassuring constant. Mother responded quickly to everyone’s encouragement and was receptive to the diligent expectation that she would participate in this opportunity for healing. The nonstop adherence to God's law and dominion was conveyed to Mother through church services, hymns, the Bible lesson read multiple times daily, and by the Christly influence that emanated from all the Christian Science nurses whose devoted adherence to the Truth engendered such confidence in both Mother and myself.

The collective mental atmosphere was so potently nourishing, loving, and confident that, midway through Mother's stay, she was strolling and enjoying the terraces, attending HRH church services, participating in study groups, and joining others for meals without a trace of a single physical symptom-- all which radically contradicted and refuted the hospital doctor's diagnosis of a stroke and his prognosis of her death if medical treatment were refused.

The decision to move Mother to High Ridge House would have not been possible without the extraordinary willingness of the management who collaborated from afar with a close family friend to aid Mother's release from the hospital and transfer to High Ridge House within one day. The robust treatment, loving, confident and steadfast care that she received quickly translated into an absolute healing.

I am profoundly grateful for the care she received and for the unwavering support of the "practitioners" who give so selflessly to ensure a safe haven where Christian Scientists can adhere to the faithful practice of Christian Science with unwavering faith.
