December 2017 — Blessed Christmas

“Blessed Christmas morn . . .
. . . Fill us today
With all Thou art — ” **

**Poems by Mary Baker Eddy, p 29

Christmas. The time each year when Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the one whom the prophet Isaiah anticipated and called “Wonderful, Counsellor . . . the Prince of Peace.”

Two thousand years later, Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “In Christian Science, Christmas stands for the real, the absolute and eternal,— for the things of Spirit, not of matter.” In her article “The Significance of Christmas,” Mrs. Eddy continues, “The true spirit of Christmas elevates medicine to Mind; it casts out evils, heals the sick, raises the dormant faculties, appeals to all conditions, and supplies every need of man.”

It is this spirit of Christmas that High Ridge House celebrates every day of the year. As a sanctuary for Christian Science healing, we bear witness to the effectiveness of Mind as medicine, casting out evils and healing the sick. We come together to support the uplifting of thought that raises the dormant faculties. We lovingly embrace the sincere seeker of Truth, whatever the condition presented. And, through skilled, professional Christian Science nursing care, we address the temporary practical needs of those relying upon the Christ-cure.

Like so many celebrations across the globe, ours is a family Christmas. The High Ridge House family includes patients, rest & study guests, Christian Science nurses, and staff. Our family also includes the broader Christian Science community, especially those in the tri-state area, drawn together as witnesses to the action of the Christ eternally dawning upon human thought. The High Ridge House family includes you, dear reader.

Today we pause to send joyful seasonal greetings to everyone in our extended family. Our gift to you is the sanctuary provided by High Ridge House, your refuge from the material world, your resource for practical care. Whether the need be an opportunity to step back from a busy schedule and allow time to study and pray, or perhaps to receive skilled care from a Christian Science nurse in our facility or in your home, High Ridge House stands ready each day, including Christmas Day.

In “What Christmas Means to Me,” Mrs. Eddy writes, “I love to observe Christmas in quietude, humility, benevolence, charity, letting good will towards man, eloquent silence, prayer, and praise express my conception of Truth’s appearing.”

Mrs. Eddy describes how we plan to observe Christmas at High Ridge House on December 25th. Her words describe what you will find at High Ridge House every day.

May your holiday season be filled with gratitude and the gifts of Spirit.

With love,

The Board of Trustees, Management and Staff of High Ridge House
