January 2018 — “Getting off to a good start”

“To begin rightly is to end rightly.”
Mary Baker Eddy

January, with its shorter days and colder temperatures, tends to bring us indoors where we seek refuge in the warmth. For many of us, this time invites quiet reflection — perhaps a prayerful assessment of the year that just ended as we seek fresh, spiritual perspectives to guide us into the year that’s just begun.

As students of Christian Science, we naturally turn to the Bible and to the writings of Mary Baker Eddy to light our journey. Indeed, Mrs. Eddy writes, “To begin rightly is to end rightly” (SH 262:28).

She also tells us, “To grasp the reality and order of being in its Science, you must begin by reckoning God as the divine Principle of all that really is” (SH 275:10-12).

We find the Biblical foundation for this spiritual idea, of course, in the very first verse of the Bible, “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.”

At High Ridge House, we are committed to “beginning rightly.” We strive to recognize God as the only creator, and to bear witness to the healing power that comes from an understanding that, as we read in the Book of John, “All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.” These truths lie at the core of our mission.

Do you feel inspired to delve deeper into these spiritual ideas? We invite you to join us, along with other students of Christian Science, when we gather each week for spiritual renewal and refreshment. Every Wednesday, High Ridge House welcomes guests from the tri-state area to take part in a day of spiritual activities. We invite you to join us.

We start with a delicious lunch in our dining room before we gather for a guided discussion inspired by our study of Christian Science. Should you wish to explore some of these ideas further, our well-stocked study room is available to you where you might also want to watch some of the many video lectures provided by The Mother Church. Our weekly Testimony Meeting begins at 3:00 p.m. and we hope you will come and share your fresh inspiration. Afterwards, we have supper packed and ready for each guest to take home. Please call for details and to reserve your space. We can even assist you with transportation.

Our Wednesday program is one of the many ways that High Ridge House stands ready to welcome you throughout the year, to provide a spiritual refuge and an opportunity for anyone choosing to rely upon Christian Science to be part of a community — a family — committed to “beginning rightly.”
